Say Hello to Keri Degg
a musician, teacher and composer based in Derbyshire, UK. She plays Saxophone/s, Flute, Clarinet and piano, though considers herself a saxophone specialist. Her all time favourite has to be the soprano sax due to its expressive qualities. She is passionate about teaching music privately and also in continuously learning, improving and passing on skills to others. She embarked on her musical career only after having her children but a strong drive and determination has seen her achieve her goals so far (and many more to come all going well!). Whilst bringing up a family and working she has achieved Grade 8’s on Soprano and Alto saxophones (Distinctions) and on Flute and Clarinet (merits…..one was whilst pregnant with her son and one, well….she just didn’t prepare the scales enough! ;). DipAbrsm in Clarinet teaching (Distinction) and DipAbrsm Saxophone performance. The piano exams are ongoing and she is currently studying LRSM saxophone repertoire.
In addition to a thriving teaching schedule she performs as and when time allows as a soloist but more often as not with Equinox saxophone ensemble (www.equinoxsax.org.uk ) a nine piece Nottingham based Saxophone ensemble from Sopranino to bass sax. They will be performing at the World Saxophone Congress in St Andrews, Scotland in July. She also plays saxophones and flute with her lively church’s worship group, improvising and soloing when required.
In 2008 Keri wrote a suite for saxophone and piano ‘Songs for Claire’ in memory of her childhood friend who passed away from a brain tumour aged just 10 years old.
She was delighted when it was accepted for publication on first attempt by Spartan Press music publishers. Encouraged by further offers of publication from other publishers regarding subsequent pieces, she decided to set up Masquerade music (www.masquerade-music.co.uk ) which publishes all her newer music. Masquerade specialises in new, original music for woodwind players and aims to make it accessible for most (not just the virtuoso player). Backing tracks are provided in varying speeds (for more challenging pieces), music can be ordered as PDF /MP3 email option, and there is a growing collection of free music and resources for teachers and students alike on the ‘Free resources’ page.
She is delighted to be part of the @twtrsymphony adventure and can’t wait to hear the finished result! Her audition piece was recorded on soprano saxophone.
